Uche Sparks Comfortable Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Even though entering their first-ever European adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without key figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable win that all but guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further three points in their upcoming match against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal straight passage to the knockout stages, particularly after a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity
This match provided a platform for several Palace's fringe players to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second start after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second game in match.
The Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season proved no match even for a largely second-string Palace lineup. The visitors were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.
Dominance Established from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A slick move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton went close soon after, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the protests.
The formerArsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had hit the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
A solitary concern for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise positive evening for the traveling side.
